Our main activities in Freshers week are going to be done in Halls. So when you get to Bristol look out for your Hall CU leaders to see what they are putting on. A big Hall wide competition/widegame/sporting macho fest is hopefully in the works, as well as loads of cool things just for your hall, tours, film nights, toastie nights and some all together too, like a wine tasting.
We are also putting on a load of BBQs with free food and great talks, by among others Roger Carswell.
Their will be BBQs across from the Union during FRESH (The Fresher's Fair) as well as the CU Stand, where you can come and meet us.
We will also be doing BBQs by the Halls of residence, one up in Clifton and one in Stoke Bishop, again with some great short evangelistic talks and a chance to meet and introduce yourself to some CU members.
There will also be some questionnairing going on, to find out Students views on all sorts of things including Jesus Christ.
On the Saturday as Freshers week is a drawing to a close, we have the first CU:Central Meeting of term. We will be kicking off our look at "Who Jesus is", "Why Jesus came" and "What should I do" from Mark's Gospel. As well as singing, praying and getting to know people that will be best friends for the rest of our lives. It should set us up for a great year!
Be excited, be very excited!
We will also be putting on a church search. Every morning and evening for the first term, we will give you the chance to go to different churches to help you choose a church quickly. There will be students who go to all the churches there, and they will briefly explain a bit about their church, and then, with no pressure applied, you can choose where you want to go that day.
We want this to be a church search, not a church sell; so there won't be any slightly scary people leaning over you with a maniac glint in their eye saying in a low soothing voice, "Come to my church, come, I know you'll like it sss." You will be free to go wherever you want, and turn down anyone you want.
We would encourage you to choose and settle in a church as soon as you could, to avoid ending up not really being involved anywhere.
